True restfulness

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest.
(Matthew 11:28)

True restedness is a rare commodity today.

We don't value it and we feel guilt if we have it.

None of our friends seem well rested and we are just too busy to find the time to rest.

How many people do you hear today talking about being tired, about not having a good nights rest, feeling weary but not knowing what to do.

It is simple—we need to find put aside our problems and worries, turn off our technology, switch off the endless news, unplug the music, close the newspapers and spend time with God, as only He can give us complete rest and provide us with everything we need.

Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him (Psalm 37:7)

God desires rest for us because it does not come naturally to us.  To rest, we have to trust that God will take care of things for us. We have to trust that, if we take a day off, the world will not stop turning on its axis.

We are encouraged to find a quiet place and get away from the hurry and scurry of this world and truely rest in God's arms.

Not only is it important for us as adult to rest, we need to encourage our children to do likewise. We need to set an example to our children, they need to see us resting and understand why it is important to do. If they learn restfulness as children they won't struggle as much as adults fitting it into their busy lives.

Be still, and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10)

Through restfulness we will find contentment, joy, peace, calmness — none of these we will find following the remedies of the world.

Through restfulness we will feel restored, be freed of our worries, our anxieties will be lifted and our strength will be replenished.

Restfulness is not only important for us spiritually, but it is good for our health—with physically and mentally but also emotionally.

For Christians, the ultimate rest is found only in Christ—no  modern self help-book will ever solve our problems.  He invites all who are “weary and burdened” to come to Him and cast our cares on Him. It is only in Him that we find our complete rest—from the cares of the world, from the sorrows that plague us, from our sadness and anxieties, from all the worries that surround us — cast all your problems on the Lord and He will care for you and me.

Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
(1 Peter 5:7)

  4. I enjoy my daily quiet time... It's so peaceful and helps my brain have time to slow down and process things (and pray about them). The day wouldn't be the same without it. Sometimes I take time out on both ends of the day, even!

    1. I have it at the end of the day and when I don't get it, it just doesn't feel right.
